The Signal the Grandmother Heard
A grandmother, somewhere —
on a porch in a country whose name
you would pronounce wrong —
stood up in the middle of a sentence
and said, *a storm is coming.*
No weather on the radio. No cloud at the treeline. Three hours later the sky split open exactly as she said it would.

She had been doing this her whole life. Nobody called it *data*.
She had been doing this her whole life.
Nobody called it *data*.
Now there are satellites. Now there are models. Now there is a machine that can predict a storm three hours out. And the world celebrates. And it should.

But know this —
she was always a satellite.
She was always a model.
Nobody had built the instrument
to hear her yet.
The miracle is not that the machine finally knows. The miracle is how long the grandmothers knew without one.
